In an odd move, it seems the Sub­aru Impreza, at least here in Aus­tralia, is no longer going to be a 4-​​door all wheel drive turbo sedan but a 4-​​door turbo hatch­back only.

It’s not all bad news with Sub­aru Aus­tralia telling us the car will be more sophis­ti­cated, though per­haps be more con­ser­v­a­tive in it’s styling and may come with a more potent ver­sion of the 2.5 litre motor cur­rently found in the WRX range. Wether this stands up to the more pow­er­ful 2.0L turbo S-​​GT engine cur­rently found in the JDM model of the WRX is yet to be seen.

Sub­aru Aus­tralia stresses the new car will be a more refined, more upmar­ket car and will be joined by the STi model, how­ever that won’t arrive until around Feb­ru­ary of next year. The Impreza range will be launched locally at the end of August and go on sale the fol­low­ing month.

Either way the release is going to be inter­est­ing not just in terms of see­ing if the hints given come true but also in terms of how the mar­ket responds to only hav­ing a choice between hatch­back mod­els

Inter­est­ingly, it’s not by much

The fel­lows at Pres­tige Motor­sport inform us that the Toy­ota Cal­d­ina GT-​​T wagon, with model years 1997–2002 (ST215W and ST246W), is now avail­able to be imported into Aus­tralia, though com­pli­ance is not yet avail­able for the later model ST246W.

The Toy­ota Cal­d­ina GT-​​T wagon is a seri­ous piece of kit, sport­ing the 191KW 3S-​​GTE engine, a 4-​​wheel drive sys­tem like the Cel­ica GT-​​Four, and either a 5 speed man­ual or tip­tronic auto­matic trans­mis­sion. Pres­tige Motor­sport esti­mate prices to be around $10,000 and $20,000 com­plied, based on con­di­tion, mileage, model year etc.
