The Lexus LF-A Nürburgring Package. Limited to 50 only.

Although the LF-A is itself limited to a run of only 500 units, Lexus have announced a Nürburgring edition of only 50 units to compliment sales.

The new edition bumps the 4.8L V10’s output 10 horsepower to 562HP, upgrades suspension, gains a new front splitter, dive planes and a fixed rear wing. Transmission changes see shift times drop 50ms to 150ms total, and the car comes in either whitest white, black,  McLaren orange, or buyers may option matte black at an added $20, 000 premium on top of the $70, 000 package cost. The LF-A costs $375, 000 as standard.

[Ed: If you can stand the ugliness of the car enhanced in orange, you’re looking at $445, 000 for a car that isn’t that much more impressive than the $85, 000 GT-R. If you can’t stomach the orange, then the matte black will mean $465, 000. ]

What is All Japan Day?

Sick and tired of car shows that spend so much time promoting themselves that they’ve forgotten all about the cars?

So was the All Japan Day organising committee! We decided to band together and create a simple event that ‘got back to basics’ and allowed entrants and spectators to do what they love doing best — just admire and talk about the sensational cars on display. By keeping it simple, we’ve also kept the costs down, which has benefited both entrants and spectators.

We are very excited about our inaugural event on 27 April 2008 and we hope its success will encourage suitable entrants from interstate (maybe even overseas? Mazda please send us a 787B racer!) in future years.

So, come and enjoy us for a relaxing day out and be dazzled by some of Australia’s finest Japanese automobiles.

The Ultra Hot Lexus L-FA

Classically Lexus evokes images of stately, extremely well appointed saloons and sedans aimed at a market with plenty of cash and years. Lexus seems to be changing that by savagely reworking the IS250’s platform for, well, brutal speed.

The IS-F now runs a very impressive direct-injected quad cam 5.0L V8 producing a colossal 311kW or 417HP, with a very healthy 372 lb-ft of torque, all harnessed with a claimed world first eight-speed direct sport shift transmission. Enough to power the (suprisingly heavy) 1693kg (3726 lb) sports sedan from 0–60 in about 4.9 seconds.

The car goes on sale in Japan at a price of around 7.66 million yen.

Details for the Formula 1 inspired powerplant aren’t set in stone and are vague at best, all we know is it’s a sub-five litre 500HP V10, and it will be dropped into the new 2011 GS body. The GS-F’s transmission predicted to be a paddle-shifting fully manualized modified 8 speed automatic, and styling is expected to follow along the IS-F’s body cues.

NSX Contender, the Advanced Sports Car Concept

The concept shows a front-engine machine, though Honda aren’t saying anything at all about the engine’s displacement, whether it would be a V6, V8, V10, naturally aspirated or forced induction. It is expected we’ll be kept hanging way into 2010, meaning Honda will be late to the game as Nissan and Toyota gear up to release their Japanese supercars; the GTR and L-FA respectively.

Let’s Talk S-AWC

Mitsubishi’s S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) drivetrain is expected to appear on the new tenth generation EVO. The drivetrain is claimed to be an advanced system capable of controlling drive torque at each wheel. This is in addition to ASC (Active Stability Control) and ACD (Active Centre Differential) and AYC (Active Yaw Control) electronic chassis-control systems.

New Transmission

The new EVO comes with the new twin-clutch SST, an automated manual system that essentially takes care of clutch operations, and comes with three modes, Normal, Sport, and S-Sport (Super Sport we assume), designed to tailor for conditions from around town punting to naughty off the line drags (We know none of our responsible, wise drivers would ever consider putting it in S-Sport).

It looks like Lexus will be entering the supercar market with confirmation of it’s L-FA concept going ahead into production, albeit in a somewhat different form to what we’ve seen around the world’s motor shows.

Carsales.com.au informs us the car will be given the designation F for “Fuji speedway” where Lexus would test their new monster. The car is expected to be a front engined V10, possibly based on a similar architecture to Toyota’s F1 car engines, and put out 370kW (500hp), competing directly with other big mean European supercars, such as the Mercedes SL65 AMG, Porsche 911 Turbo, Aston Martin DB9 and Ferrari F430. It will also be interesting to see how the new Lexus supercar stacks up against Nissan’s upcoming GTR.

The first F series Lexus, the IS-F is expected to arrive in Australia sometime next year. Australian IS-F’s will be fitted with a 5L 300kW V8 an 8 speed automatic transmission and limited slip differential, making the car a nice drag package for those of you with the inclination (all of you I dare say).
